RSR Boxing Results: Julio Cesar Chavez JR Defeats John Duddy

By Geno McGahee

Julio Cesar Chavez, JR., 41-0-1, 30 KO’s, earned his spot in the middleweight top ten with a good performance against John Duddy, 29-2, 18 KO’s, picking up the WBC Silver belt, whatever that’s worth.  There were rumors about Duddy having difficulty making weight, which is strange considering that he seemed more comfortable at 154 and he was fighting at 160, and there were also indications that the magnitude of the event was getting to him.  Some journalists were met with quick comments from an on edge Duddy.  Whatever the case, Chavez, JR., outworked Duddy and took the unanimous decision and now targets the champion, Sergio Martinez.  Duddy will seriously have to evaluate his career and determine where he goes from here.

On the undercard, returning Marco Antonio Barrera, 65-7, 43 KO’s, dominated Adailton De Jesus, 26-4, 21 KO’s, taking the unanimous decision.
