Amir Khan Vs Marcos Maidana Predictions

By Mike “Rubber Warrior” Plunkett

This weekend England’s Amir Khan makes the 3rd defense of his WBA World light welterweight bauble against interim champ, Marcos Maidana of Argentina. The long awaited bout has all the required elements to make an intriguing encounter; the acknowledged talent of the champion, the undeniably destructive power of the challenger, Khan’s suspect chin and Maidana’s unwavering determination. Adding to the mix, Khan has been making all sorts of noise as of late, going so far as to challenge Floyd Mayweather JR. Fueling the fire of delusion, Freddie Roach has been predicting Khan’s eventual ascension to the sport’s top spot as a pound per pound entrant. Undaunted and convinced his resolve and extraordinary power will make all of the difference, “El Chino” Maidana has predicted the destruction of Khan, claiming that exchanges will be unavoidable, and that in the end he will be the last man standing. RSR’s writers give their expert predictions on the outcome.

Khan by TKO 9th

Kahn by wide decision…

I used to be very skeptical of Amir Khan but he has looked very good lately. I also hear good things about his progress under Freddie Roach. I’ll pick him to use his tremendous speed and sound boxing skills to outbox the slugger Maidana and win a decision.

The Khan vs. Maidana fight is a different story. We have 2 fighters who are out to prove themselves. It would be smart boxing and fast hands for Khan against a KO artist in Maidana. If Khan can weather the storm and follow Freddie Roach to the letter, and if Maidana will do what he does best; then we’ll be seeing a great fight on the 11th of December. Khan by either late round stoppage or unanimous decision.

Damien Norman

Defeated once early in his career by Columbian Breidis Prescott who came out fast and destroyed Khan in under 40 seconds but since that night Khan has come a long way and looks a much more complete fighter. Khan has been working with Freddy Roach for quite some time now but this is his biggest (and arguably first real) test to date. Khan has 23 wins to his name and 17 KO’s.

Maidana has an impressive record of 29 wins and a staggering 27 of those were by KO! Has has just the one loss, a split decision against Andriy Kotelnik who Khan defeated last year (this also went to points, but the decision was unanimous in Khan’s favour).

I like Marcos Maidana and this is going to be two similar fighters going at it. I think Maidana will win by an early KO, 2nd-4th round.

Hermilando “Ingming” Duque Aberia

Amir Khan throws volumes of punches that are enough to overpower any opponent. Let’s repeat the word “any.” He is fast, strong and confident. On the other hand, Marcos Maidana has shown how he copes in the middle of a storm, as the Ortiz fight tells us. Could be that Marcos Maidana is not just “any” fighter. He is built to last. Khan by decision if fight goes the distance; Maidana wins if it does not.

Geno McGahee

Khan will fight a very safe fight and win a UD with a few scares along the way.

Guillermo Reyes

I have Amir Khan by 8th round TKO!

Victor Ortiz had Maidana in some trouble in their fight 18 months ago, but he elected to stand in front of Maidana and fight him and he paid dearly for it. Khan might have made the same mistake a couple of years ago, but he has learned a great deal and he uses his gifts far more effectively now. Khan should use his speed and length to box Maidana keeping his immensely powerful though decidedly slower opponent at bay on this night. Khan by a fairly comfortable unanimous decision.
Idris “Drees” Newton

If Khan shows some real heart by weathering what I think will be an early knockdown then he will win. He’s got too much speed and boxing ability.
Mike “Rubber Warrior” Plunket

Amir Khan by 9th round TKO.

Tally
Amir Khan: 9
Marcos Maidana: 1
Undecided: 1
