Royal Rumble Shocker – John Cena Leaves RAW Fans Stunned

By Kevin Nelson

The much anticipated confrontation of Wade Barrett and CM Punk would take place. They met face to face in the ring but before any type of situation occurred the RAW, the GM made a match pitting CM Punk facing Wade Barrett with the stipulation that the loser along with there members of their respected groups would lose their spot in the Royal Rumble.

Another wrinkle added is the special guest referee being none other than John Cena. The next match was a tag team match as Alberto Del Rio and King Sheamus teamed up to face John Morrison and Mark Henry.

Henry, if you recall, eliminated ten people in a over the top challenge with Del Rio backing out of the competition. The match would end with Del Rio and Sheamus defeating Henry and Morrison by locking in a cross-arm-breaker and forcing Henry to tap with each passing week and victory Del Rio continues to look more impressive backing up his claim of being a contender.

The next match was for the Diva’s Title as Natalya defended against Melina, in a matchup that went back and forth with Natalya getting the victory. With that victory, Natalya did not get a chance to enjoy it, as Lay Cool (Michelle McCool and Layla) were invoking their rematch clause at the Royal Rumble. They continued to make fun of Natalya and her supposed weight problem.

The next match was the raw and Smackdown Champions faced off in a battle of champion vs. champion with Edge and Miz squaring off.

As the match started, Edge was very dominant until Miz started zoning in on Edge’s injured ribs. As the match started to head back in Edge’s favor, with him about to hit his famous “spear,” on The Miz, the number one contender Dolph Ziggler interfered and the match ended in a DQ victory for Edge.

It was rather predictable seeing as though Ziggler was sitting at ringside.

Amid the three on one beating with Alex Riley, The Miz and Ziggler beating up on Edge, Randy Orton came out and cleaned house, but not before the Miz hit him behind the knee with a briefcase and escaped the ring.

Next was a tag team match featuring Maryse, Alicia Fox and Ted Dibiase facing the Bella Twins and Daniel Bryan. Maryse would get the victory and pour salt over her boyfriend’s, Dibiase’s, wounds as he has not won a match in weeks.

The next match was a tag team match featuring the new Nexus Mike McGillicutty and Husky Harris facing Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov in a non title match. The match would end with the new Nexus victorious over the champs.

Finally, the main event as CM Punk and Wade Barrett faced off against one another with Cena as the referee. Cena’s first duty was to ban Nexus and CORR from ringside and after heated exchanges between Punk and Barrett, Cena would go out of the ring and sign autographs.

Cena would anger both Punk and Barrett. Once Punk threw Barrett over the top rope and brag, Cena would proceed to throw Punk out the ring and then disqualify both for excessive language and reminding people that this is a PG show.

From that announcement, the RAW GM stated that Cena would lose his spot too if he did not apologize to Barrett and Punk. After apologizing, he struck Punk and Barrett. Following that, both groups Nexus and CORR came out and looked as if Cena would get a beating.

But just then, the Big Show appeared and laid a beat down to all.

Raw aftermath:

After a much ado about nothing matchups, featuring Edge, Miz, Barrett and Punk, it was a night of constant interference. As storylines go, it still centered on John Cena and his feud with Barrett and Punk as opposed to Barrett and Punk feuding with each other.

I don’t quite understand the storyline after being kicked out of Nexus. You would think Barrett would want some vengeance on Punk who cost him a title shot but the WWE writers think that we, as viewers, have short term memories I guess.

With the Royal Rumble 6 days a way, in a 40 man battle royal with the CORR and Nexus being in the ring, here’s hoping we get some wrestlers from yesteryear in the rumble.
