Matt Hamill Shocking Words for Rampage Jackson

By Sean Farrell

Matt Hamill may be the only fighter to have benefited from Thiago Silva’s failed drug test in this circus of finding Quinton “Rampage” Jackson an opponent. Hamill will no longer be fighting a lower-profile opponent in Phil Davis and instead will fight Silva’s originally scheduled opponent, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who is more dangerous and carries a much higher-profile.

With Jackson, Hamill is in control, a win over the former champ will likely put Hamill in the title hunt, should he suffer a loss to the former PRIDE FC star it will not carry anywhere near as heavy a burden as he would have if he suffered a loss to the still-developing Davis.

Hamill spoke recently on his upcoming fight with “Rampage,” which he believes will give him the opportunity to place himself in the thick of the light heavyweight title picture. “I’m just glad Rampage accepted the fight,” Hamill said. “I had my doubts if he would or not. I’m glad he’s so motivated. He won’t have any excuses when I beat him. I will prove I belong in the title mix at 205 (pounds). ‘Rampage’ is an old-school brawler. I’m much more of a complete mixed martial artist. I have the heart to break his will, and I will make ‘Rampage’ very uncomfortable in this fight.”

Hamill has long desired to be considered a top contender in this division and knows a win over “Rampage” will get him there, Hamill is currently only focused on “Rampage” and their fight this May at UFC 130. “As for a title shot, I only have eyes for ‘Rampage,'” Hamill said. “I don’t care what happens after that. He’s the guy I want right now.”
