Amir Khan: “Manny Pacquiao is Not on Steroids”

By Geno McGahee

The WBA Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan, has come forward to the defense of Manny Pacquiao. Amid steroid allegations from the Mayweathers and 50 Cent, Pacquiao and his legions of followers and, at times, blind defenders, have denied any and all wrong doing.

The former 106 pound fighter turned 145 powerhouse has turned some heads with his knockout performances, but has raised some eyebrows as well, most notably from the Mayweathers. Floyd Mayweather, JR., has made the contention that the rise of Pacquiao wasn’t totally natural and 50 Cent has come out and clearly stated that Manny is juicing.

Khan, another Freddie Roach fighter, spoke to the Independent on Sunday and stated:

“The drugs rumors were upsetting but I can honestly say that I have never seen anything like that happening… People always say when someone is successful: ‘Ah, but they take drugs, don’t they?’ Well, in my case it’s simply not true, nor is it in Manny’s.”

On May 7th, Manny Pacquiao steps into the ring with Shane Mosley, a veteran beyond his better years, but a notable fight because of the name value of Sugar Shane. Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, JR., have been on a collision course for some time, but don’t bank on it happening any time soon. With all of the lawsuits, allegations, outrageous 100 million dollar demand from Floyd, and more, this fight is a long shot at best.

Khan coming forward is not going to convince anyone that believes that Manny is not on steroids. People are rather set in their beliefs and if he is, it probably will never come out. With Floyd’s recent 100 million dollar demand, it becomes clear that there are more than steroids that is preventing him from stepping into the ring. He does not want to risk his record.
