“Now in the pros I realize you have to constantly work harder than you did last time.”—Lanell Bellows
The super middleweight division is jam packed with talented champions and solid contenders. One rising prospect, who is trying to break into the rankings and taking his boxing career very seriously is Lanell Bellows. Bellows is with “The Money Team” (TMT), so he has some powerful players in boxing behind him.
BB: What is next in your boxing career?
Waiting on my next fight date.
BB: You are part of “The Money Team”. Lately, they have been getting a lot of bad press. What can you share positive about the TMT that the media doesn’t cover?
Regardless, we’re still working hard, and being positive through all the bad press and criticism. We’re still moving forward.
BB: You have been a pro a little over two years now. Is there anything that has surprised you about being in the sport as a professional?
The work ethic. There’s always someone willing to go harder and farther. Now in the pros I realize you have to constantly work harder than you did last time.
BB: Where do you see yourself in two years when it comes to your boxing career?
Probably a defending champion.
BB: What is one thing outside of boxing that you can share that may surprise the readers?
I’m a barber by trade. Boxing was just something I liked to do. I like to fight. Now it’s a role reversal. I cut hair since I was 14 and now, I’m nearly 29, boxing all the time and rarely any barbering.
BB: If you could meet one person from anytime in history, who would it be and what would your first question be for them?
Wilt Chamberlain. And I’d ask him if when he started in the NBA did he see himself becoming a legend?
BB: Do you favor a mandatory retirement fund for all boxers and if so, how do you think it can finally be accomplished?
It would be nice, but to set it up, a lot of technicalities would have to be figured out. Like what qualifies a boxer to retire, and how to determine the contributions to even get a fund started, and who would oversee getting the whole thing established. But I’d like to see it happen.
BB: Finally, what is the saying you live your life by?
“Nothing comes to a sleeper but a dream. You got to work for what you want.”
