Conor McGregor Vs Floyd Mayweather, JR? – MMA Breaking News
By Barnaby “Mattress Man” Kellaway
Conor McGregor will fight Chad Mendes for the interim featherweight title in just a few days time. However, Mendes is not the only “Money” that McGregor has his eye on. In a recent appearance on Conan the Irishman called out the most renowned fighter in the world: Floyd Mayweather, JR. McGregor was characteristically cocky throughout the interview but when O’Brien began asking questions about Mayweather he took the opportunity to grab some headlines. “If you’re asking would I like to fight Floyd, who would not like to dance around a ring for $180,000,000? I certainly know he would not want to step in to my world, the world of pure unarmed combat where there are no limitations but I most certainly would step in to his world and I would certainly box him if the opportunity arose.
There is no real fight left for Floyd. If you’re looking for a fight that could generate interest it must be a match of different styles.” He finished with a quote that may long be remembered: “If we were to get it on I would most certainly dismantle him also.” It is McGregor’s sharp tongue and inflammatory nature that has propelled him to the top of his division in the UFC. But were he to to get his wish here he would be in for a rude awakening.
Despite being one of the best boxers in mixed martial arts he would stand no chance against the best boxer of a generation. Equally, if they were to step in to the octagon opposite one another then the advantage in favor of McGregor would be just as noticeable. Regardless of the disparity in skill between the two it would be a match-up which would generate an enormous amount of interest and money. If the worlds of MMA and boxing were ever to come together then McGregor and Mayweather, both masters of promotion, would be the best men to make it happen.
