Georges St. Pierre Vs Nick Diaz: UFC President Dana White Makes it Happen
Georges St. Pierre successfully got by Jake Shields over five rounds to earn a unanimous decision victory at UFC 129. Though it wasn’t his best performance by any means, St. Pierre was dominant in taking Shields the distance and many are now questioning what’s left for him to accomplish at 170lbs. The name Nick Diaz comes to mind immediately when thinking of the next opponent for “Rush,” but Diaz is contracted by Showtime/Strikeforce and are thought to present an obstacle in bringing that fight to the UFC.
At least, until Dana White told the gathered media after UFC 129 that he owns Strikeforce now and can put that fight together if he sees fit. “I imagine I could do whatever I wanted to do if I really wanted,” White said of putting together the bout. “But we have a contract with Showtime, and he’s a Strikeforce fighter. We’ll see how it works out, but that’s an interesting fight. I’ll tell you what, I was there for that last fight, and I was blown away by his last fight,” White said of Diaz’s early-April title defense against Paul “Semtex” Daley. “He looked incredible. It’s interesting.”
White currently plans to fly to Stockton, California to discuss Nick Diaz and his professional boxing plans.
