Fedor Emelianenko Vs Dan Henderson: DONE DEAL

By Sean Farrell

For anyone who misses PRIDE FC, perhaps the biggest fight in the history of Strikeforce has been finalized as reports broke that Fedor Emelianenko will face Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson on July 30th, 2011 in Chicago, IL on Showtime. The bout will be a non-title affair at a catchweight of 220lbs, but will be promoted as a heavyweight contest.

After faltering in his Strikeforce debut against then-champ Jake Shields, Henderson got back on track and knocked out both Renato “Babalu” Sobral and then Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante, the win over “Feijao” gave Henderson the Strikeforce 205 pound title.

Once considered to be the pound-for-pound best fighter in the sport, Emelianenko’s stock has fallen dramatically after two consecutive losses in Strikeforce, to Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Silva. After suffering those defeats, the call went up for Emelianenko to change things up in his famous same training routine and he did just that. Fedor relocated to Holland for a time to improve his overall technique and conditioning.

While not officially announced yet by the organization, Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson is expected to take place on July 30, 2011 from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
