Casey Anthony: TRASH BAG PROVES VICTORY FOR DEFENSE
Casey Anthony’s attorney questioned Geraldo Bloise, the crime scene investigator, about why he decided to dry out garbage found in a bag in Anthony’s car. The defense attorneys argue that the foul odor in the car came from the garbage, not from a decomposing body in the trunk.
Defense attorney Jose Baez cross-examined Bloise, asking: “You had no idea it would alter significant items in this case?” He responded that he was following protocol, because drying out evidence preserves it and makes it easier to examine.
The odor is the car has become the case. A strong odor, recognized by most involved as the smell of a decomposing body. Cindy and George, the parents of Casey, both stated at one time or another that they recognized the odor in the car as a dead body, and with George as a former police officer, he would be able to recognize it. So too would a tow truck driver that encountered several dead bodies throughout his career. He would also testify that he smelled what he believed to be a dead body.
A hair from Caylee, the dead toddler, was found in the trunk, and an expert testified that there was evidence that the hair was from a deceased person, which was met by the defense with skepticism, calling it “junk science.”
Today’s attack on the dried out garbage may have been a small victory for the Casey defense, and at this point, they need to rebound.
