Juan “El Puma” Gonzalez: MURDERED
Hot, undefeated lightweight Juan “El Puma” González (11-0, 10 KOs) was tragically shot and killed on Monday at around 7PM near his residence in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. The police have no suspects at this moment. The 6′, 22 year old fought under the promotional banner of Miguel Cotto Promotions and H2 Entertainment and was developing as a solid prospect in boxing. His best attributes were his devastating punching power and his charisma. Accomplishments during his short career were a great victory on June 5, 2010 over solid Juan Lucio on the undercard of Cotto-Foreman at Yankee Stadium in New York City, and another over Jeremy McLaurin by KO in the first round at the MGM in Las Vegas on March 12, 2011 on the Cotto-Mayorga undercard.
“We are very sad about this shocking news. He always showed courage in each and every one of the his fights. He will live in the hearts of those of us who knew him and shared time with him,” stated Miguel Cotto, triple world champion and promoter of González.
Héctor Soto, co-promoter of González added “I received a very sad call very early this morning from González manager, Andrés Ortiz. I feel a huge sadness as Puma was very important for us as a friend. We are all praying for support for the family.”
Details of funeral services will be announced today.
