Casey Anthony: THE VERDICT IS CLOSE

The jury has resumed deliberations today in the first degree murder trial of the “Tot Mom,” 25 year old Casey Anthony. The jury spent nearly six hours considering the case yesterday, receiving it at around noon. Judge Belvin Perry recessed court at 6 PM, and the jury was sent back to their hotel rooms.
The Prosecution is seeking the death penalty in the case, should Casey be found guilty of the first degree murder of her 2 year old daughter Caylee. She is also facing charges of aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child and four counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer.
The Defense is fending off the charges, shifting focus to Casey’s father, George. The contention is that George found the dead body of Caylee in the swimming pool, a drowning victim, and then tried to cover it up. Casey, the victim of sexual abuse at the hands of her father, was so messed up by this, never reported her daughter missing. She is the victim here…that’s the point, much like the Menendez brothers. Many feel a lot of sympathy for Casey, and you have to wonder how many jurors share the feeling.
Caylee, 2 years old, was found in the woods, duct tape over her mouth, dead. The Casey Anthony car had the “smell of death,” with various experts putting the body in the trunk. The Prosecution has done a great job in presenting this case, but the Defense has done well, arguably creating some reasonable doubt.
The biggest problem for the Defense is their account of what happened. Casey has been lying so much and her lies are so ridiculous that this story of former cop George doing this seems so absurd. Casey’s behavior before, during, and after the investigation say a great deal as well. As great as the Defense did, they are fighting an uphill battle, but the jury may have felt sympathy for her and if we don’t get a “not guilty” verdict, we may see something reduced. I don’t think that they are going to send Casey to her death.
