Boxing News: Firat Arslan – Marco Huck War of Words

After a big weekend of cruiserweight boxing in Germany, the newly crowned IBF international and PABA cruiserweight champion Firat Arslan (who scored a fifth round tko victory over Lubos Suda on Friday) called out WBO world champion Marco Huck (who stopped Hugo Hernan Garay in the tenth on Saturday). “I want to fight for a world title again”, said former WBA champ Arslan after his fight. “I don’t care which title or against whom. I will fight anybody as long as I get my hands on a belt. I know that I am already 40 years old but Bernard Hopkins just won in impressive fashion at age 46. So I still got some good years ahead of me. I still feel young and powerful and with my whole team and all the people supporting me I am sure that I can be world champion again.”

Promoter Ahmet Oner said he’s not afraid of Huck after his “poor performance” against Garay on Saturday. “Huck brings nothing to the ring Firat has to worry about”, says Oner. “If I compare the two fights I saw Firat beating down his opponent methodically with an excellent technical and tactical performance while Huck was getting involved in a street fight again. If Huck and his team dare to step into the ring with Firat I clearly see Firat winning the title. But I doubt that they will accept the challenge because they know that they would risk their title. Uli Wegner is a very good and very experienced trainer. He will not allow his fighter to get a thrashing which Huck would surely get against Arslan.”

First of all Huck takes a summer break to marry his girlfriend while Arslan will continue trianing and return to action on September 24th in Trabzon, Turkey. “Firat has no time to waste. We want to keep him active and move him in the ratings because we know that ho world champion will take a voluntary fight against him. So we have to make him mandatory challenger which means that he has to work his way through the division. We’re ready to do this”, states Oner.
