Boxing News: Odlanier Solis Returns to the Ring on October 14th

Heavyweight contender Odlanier Solis will return October 14 against Varol Vekiloglu in a clash for the IBF Intercontinental championship. It will be Solis first fight since blowing out his knee in March in the first round of his world title challenge against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. “I can’t wait to get back into the ring,” Solis. “I’m working hard for my comeback. Until the fight against Vitali, I was a pure professional. Boxing was my job and I was very emotionless. In the fight against Klitschko, I realized how easy it is to beat him. Since then I definitely want to be world champion. That’s my goal. If my knee holds, nobody can stop me.”

Promoter Ahmet Öner added, “Solis has an immediate chance to box for the IBF Intercontinental title. Odlanier showed in that one round that he is better than Vitali Klitschko and can beat the older brother. If the injury would not have stopped him, he would already be world champion. Since no one knows how long Vitali wil continue boxing, we are now hunting for Wladimir. This IBF Intercontinental clash is the ideal first step. The Klitschko brothers will try everything to avoid Solis, so we must again make him the mandatory challenger in one of the associations. If Solis is healthy we can do it because there is nobody in the world who can beat him if he is fit.”
