Vitali Klitschko Vs Tomasz Adamek: WBC Boxing Heavyweight Title Fight & Predictions

By Geno McGahee

Today in Poland, we will see the WBC Heavyweight Champion, Vitali Klitschko, 42-2, 39 KO’s, defending his title against the former cruiserweight champion and top contender, Tomasz Adamek, 44-1, 28 KO’s.

Klitschko is 40 years old and is nearing the end of his career, and isn’t nearly as good as he once was. He is still very dominant and does possess a clubbing powerful punch, but the slowing of the reflexes, speed, and less mobility, Adamek has a chance to overcome the odds and take a decision and the title, shaking up the division.

Klitschko regained the WBC title, a crown he abandoned in 2004, in 2008, winning it with a stoppage of Sam Peter. He has made six title defenses, defeating top contenders Odlanier Solis, Kevin Johnson, and Chris Arreola. His intimidating look, size, and confidence make him a difficult man to beat, but not impossible.

Adamek has been preparing for a showdown with a Klitschko, taking on big men like Michael Grant and Kevin McBride, but neither is close to what he is facing today. They do give him his range and he is coming into this fight with a strict game plan to take the title. He does have a tendency to get hit by right hands, which is not a good trait to have going into this bout.

Boxing experts have chimed in to give their opinion on today’s WBC showdown…

As Hopkins has shown, age doesn’t really mean a thing. 6 years younger, I always liked how Adamek just hangs in with his opponents. He’s not overpowering by any means, but I think he can give the elder Klitschko some competition. I predict that Adamek will win by a 12 round split decision unless Klitschko makes quick work of him with his jab and key body punches. Adamek has to take the fight to Klitschko and outbox him. Prediction: Adamek by 12 round split decision.

Marc Anthony

I don’t feel Tomasz has the power to pressure Vitali into an uncomfortable fight rhythm to win. If Vitali comes in peaked and dialed in he will have a very dominate performance that will have writers saying that he should fight like that all the time. Vitali by early stoppage.

Kevin Nelson

I predict that Adamek will use the ring and display good boxing on his toes and will win some early rounds but Vitali will be too much for Adamek as he will use his strength and power to overwhelm Adamak by the 9th round. I predict a stoppage victory for Vitali.

Bob Trieger

Klitschko WTKO11 Adamek…..Vitali just too big and he knows how to lean back and not get hit flush. Adamek will give his all but it won’t be enough.

Tony Jeter

Vitali Klitschko by Late probably and eighth or ninth round TKO.

“Bad” Brad Berkwitt

I have to go with Vitali, but I would love to see Tomasz “NOT INTERESTED” Adamek stop VK.. In the end, VK by a boring UD.

Adamek has the right style to defeat Vitali. He will use movement and angles and the 40 year old legs of the champion may betray him in this fight, BUT the inability to get away from right hands may be too much of a weakness for Adamek. I think we see an early start by Adamek and a lead, but he won’t hold off Vitali forever. Vitali by TKO in 8.

Feel the madness on the edge of insanity in Poland when Adamek brings the Polish Power and wins the heavyweight title via DQ when Wladimir interferes with a steel chair, but I got your back Adamek!
