Alexander Povetkin – Evander Holyfield: DONE DEAL

By Geno McGahee

It is a done deal. As always, RSR brings you the biggest scoops in boxing and this may just qualify as the oldest scoop, as the “Real Deal” Evander Holyfield, 44-10-2, 29 KO’s, the 48 year old former heavyweight champion will take on the current WBA “Regular” Champion, Alexander Povetkin, 22-0, 15 KO’s, for the title in Switzerland on December 17th.

Holyfield has maneuvered himself into title shots because of his name value only. He lost to Sultan Ibragimov for the WBO title, Nikolay Valuev for WBA, and after quitting and getting the victory on his stool over Sherman Williams, he defeated the long retired mediocrity Brian Nielsen, which somehow earned him this shot.

The only chance that Holyfield has here is to head butt his way to victory, something that you cannot totally discount. Povetkin is looking for an easy first defense with a name opponent…and found a guy that fit the bill. Let’s hope that Holyfield doesn’t bring that Ray Charles impersonator that we had to endure during the Sherman Williams PPV. Myself and the six other people that rented it were robbed.
