Josh Barnett: STRIKEFORCE RESULTS – MMA/UFC NEWS
I LOVE saying “I told you so” . . . . so I’ll go ahead and say I told you so.
I predicted that Kharitonov, despite having cinder blocks for hands, would be taken to the ground and submitted by Josh Barnett. Interestingly enough . . . that’s EXACTLY what happened!
I won’t lie, I didn’t predict how the fight got there. Kharitonov actually caught Barnett with several punches that snapped his head back early in the round. Now I expected Barnett to simply close the distance and take Kharitonov down . . . but he didn’t.
Instead, Barnett hit Kharitonov several powerful counter hits that made Kharitonov think twice about charging in . . . and THEN he went ahead and took him down. Once again, Barnett actually went for the knockout as he dropped more elbows than Randy Savage (god rest his soul) on Kharitonov.
But when it was all said and done, Barnett sunk in a choke to win. So why am I writing a post that has thus far stated the obvious?
Barnett took shots from someone who is possibly the hardest hitter left in Strikeforce’s heavyweight tournament . . . and won. Not just won, but got the better of the standup portion of the fight before dominating the rest of it. This basically means that if any fighter hopes to beat Josh Barnett, they will not be able to do it on their feet.
So that, by process of elimination, means that the tournament winner will need to out grapple Josh Barnett . . . who is a world class wrestler and holds 2 international grappling titles.
Yeah, no sweat.
