Exclusive Interview by Marc Anthony

“This is the most important thing for me, to give back to the fans and gain a little bit of respect back from my fans that have supported me.” – Alfredo Angulo

The stage is set for Alfredo Angulo, 20-1, 17 KO’s, and James Kirkland to face each other Saturday night in the beautiful city of Cancun, Mexico. With both fighters less than 20% of their opponents have gone the distance. James has had Alfredo on his radar for quite some time and Alfredo is willing to oblige that wish. Also, James Kirkland went back to his old trainer and feels reinvigorated. While Alfredo also has gone back to an old trainer in boxing hall of fame and legend Nacho Beristain, whom he trained with during his Olympic run.

Alfredo’s style is a pressure type of fighter who comes forward with volume punches that drains the will away from his opponents with a very durable chin. He faces one punch knockout artist in James who uses his speed to get his punch in first. This promises to be a must see fight with plenty of action from both fighters.

Golden Boy Promotions card headlined by Alfredo Angulo vs. James Kirkland on HBO’s Boxing After Dark Saturday 10:15 PM ET / 7:15 PM PT.

Alfredo Angulo speaks with RSR on his upcoming fight and gives a message to all fight fans …

MA: James comes with big punching power. Do you think he is the hardest puncher you will have faced?

I wouldn’t be able to tell you until the day of the fight. The majority of my opponents have been hard punchers like Joel Julio. I wouldn’t be able to tell you until the day of Nov 5th when we are inside that ring and he connects with a punch then we will see what kind of power James Kirkland has.

MA: Do you have more inspiration to win because your fight will be in Mexico and a shot at making a super fight between 2 Mexicans?

This fight is very important. I will be returning to television and I want to give a great fight to the fight fans. Even though I have gone through some things, my fans still support me. This is the most important thing for me, to give back to the fans and gain a little bit of respect back from my fans that have supported me.

MA: Why do you think the fans are very excited to see this fight?

I think because the fans like fighters who come forward and fight and “El Perro” is that way just like Kirkland is too. I like to face my opponents. And the fans know they will get a great night of boxing from us that night.

MA: Do you plan on showing off your new defense in this fight?

The fans know my style but it all depends on how Kirkland decides to fight me. If he wants to box or exchange punches he will decide and how this fight will be.

MA: How has the conditioning training gone?

We have prepared very well for this fight. We had great conditioning training here.

MA: How has your training with Nacho been going?

It’s been a very serious camp.

MA: Prediction Marquez vs. Pacquiao?

A very even fight, I think that both are facing great opponents from one another. Juan Manuel Marquez is a fighter that although Pacquiao has dropped him a few times, Marquez has come right back up, and the fans know Marquez comes to fight and both have great conditioning and strength. No prediction from me but I do wish them both luck and that the best man win.

MA: Message to the fans?

That when you see Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo on any fight card you will see a great fight and on November 5th it will be no different.
