Jon Jones: UFC Champion READY FOR WAR

By Sean Farrell

Although this fight is a long way out, I am so excited for it I must start covering it ASAP. Which fight am I speaking of? Well the UFC Light Heavyweight Title bout between “the Most Dynamic Fighter Ever” Jon “Bones” Jones and “the Most Elusive Fighter Ever” Lyoto “the Dragon” Machida. Now for the pot stirring.

Jon Jones was asked on the UFC on Fox 1: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos red carpet event this past weekend how he can solve Lyoto Machida and his elusive style of fighting. The question seems to be one that “Bones” is constantly getting in the build to his fight with “The Dragon” at UFC 140 in December and rightfully so.

“Lyoto’s a pretty crafty guy. I believe that I’m pretty crafty as well,” said Jones, “You know, everyone just keeps asking me, ‘How are you going to figure out this tough puzzle?’ My answer to that is that I feel as if I am a pretty tough puzzle to figure out. So I just really need to focus on what I need to do to win the fight and let everything take care of itself.”

Jones (14-1) successfully defended his title against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson earlier this year in dominating fashion, making the UFC legend look like he didn’t even belong in an MMA bout. He has won five straight since being disqualified in a bout with Matt Hamill in 2009, a bout he was dominating and on the verge of finishing until landing an illegal 12-6 elbow.

Machida (17-2) is a former UFC light heavyweight champion who earned the title shot after Rashad Evans was forced out of the bout due to a hand injury(when is Rashad not hurt? this is getting sad). Machida is rebounding from his only losses, and seems to be back on track after his highlight Karate Kid-esque knockout of UFC legend Randy Couture back in April.

Although a long way off, this fight has so many small key factors involved that it can be talked about and hyped like the Super Bowl is in the NFL. Stay tuned as I will be building up this fight until it finally happens on December 10, 2011.
