Brock Lesnar DESTROYED – Alistair Overeem … THE FUTURE OF UFC

By Vinnie Franklin

Alistair Overeem, the former Strikeforce Champion, made a statement with his destruction of Brock Lesnar at UFC 141. This guy has done it all and Lesnar didn’t have anything to offer to concern him. He walked down the big mountain and crumbled him with a kick to the gut. Game over Brock and game on for Overeem.

The bout was a title eliminator and now Overeem, 36-11, will move on and get his crack at a title that he will be favored to win, most likely, against Junior dos Santos. His ability to strike well was the difference in the Lesnar win. It seemed that Brock didn’t want to get too close to him. With the choke outs and the knees to the head, Lesnar opted to stay on the outside. He was damned if he did, damned if he didn’t.

Lesnar announced his retirement from the sport after the difficulty, noting that: “I’ve had a difficult couple of years with my disease [diverticulitis]. I’m going to officially say that tonight is the last time you are going to see me in the Octagon.”

The unimpressive record of Lesnar, 4-3 in the UFC, proves that he wasn’t much more than a novelty, hyped up to be a main event man. He was spoon-fed and Overeem was the real deal. You see what happens when you match up a wannabe with a true MMA king? Carry the wannabe out of the ring dude. They ain’t gonna cut it.

The only thing that can stop Overeem is himself. They are talking about his steroid usage and maybe he did and maybe he didn’t, but is he doing it now? The jury is still out. If the tests keep coming back negative and he’s allowed to fight, you can bet your savings that the opponents will fall at his feet. The guy is that damn good. He is the future of the MMA if he don’t screw it up.
