Alexander Povetkin Vs Hasim Rahman: HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT IN GERMANY OFFICIAL – BOXING NEWS

By Geno McGahee

RSR has just been informed that WBA Heavyweight Champion, Alexander Povetkin, 24-0, 16 KO’s, will be defending his title in Germany on July 14th against former 2-Time Champion, Hasim Rahman, 50-7-2, 41 KO’s.

Rahman, at 39, has put together five straight victories since his losing effort to Wladimir Klitschko, the true champion, in 2008. The five victories have not been against stellar opposition and the weight of Rahman has been all over the place. He has ranged from a heavy 264 to a staggering 284 in recent outings.

The age and weight may be factors, but if a motivated and fit Rahman enters the ring, we may be looking at a new champion. The one shot that Marco Huck was able to find with some regularity against Povetkin was the right hand and Rahman’s bread and butter is the overhand right. If Huck can shake up the champ, Rahman can knock him cold. This is a very winnable fight for him.

We may be crowning a 3-Time Champ in Germany should Rahman come into the bout in shape and motivated. If not, we could see a boring clutch-fest and the champ holding onto the title.
