Antonio Tarver – Lateef Kayode & Winky Wright – Peter Quillin BOXING RESULTS

By Geno McGahee

Father time caught up with both Antonio Tarver, 29-6-1, 20 KO’s, and Winky Wright, 51-6-1, 25 KO’s, as the younger men that they were facing got the better of them. With Tarver, the former light heavyweight champion, he struggled to get a draw with Lateef Kayode, 18-0-1, 14 KO’s, in an ugly and close fight. Tarver wasn’t able to pull the trigger and just followed Kayode around.

Kayode didn’t do himself any favors, not really exchanging with Tarver and just looking to play it safe. The scorecards were split, with one for Tarver (115-113), one for Kayode (115-113) and one even (114-114). RSR had it for Kayode by one point, but the audience deserved points for staying awake.

After the fight, Kayode made some stupid comments regarding the scorecards. He said that he would not fight on Showtime again and that he wants to fight Tarver on HBO. The fight was there for the taking it seemed for him. He just didn’t go for it when he should have.

Peter Quillin, 27-0, 20 KO’s, on the other hand, seized his opportunity. The returning former champion, and pound for pound top fighter, Winky Wright, came back at 40 and was very rusty. Quillin attacked and became one of the few fighters to put Wright on the floor. He used his youth and strength to dominate the fight en route to a unanimous decision win by scores of 98-91 (twice), and 97-92.
