Singer Tony Martin DEAD at 98 – Breaking DETAILS

By “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

Popular singer Tony Martin who made a big name for himself in movie musicals from the 1930’s – 1950’s has died at age 98.
Martin died of natural causes Friday evening at his West Los Angeles home, his friend and accountant Beverly Scott said Monday.
In a group of fantastic singers such as Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, Martin carved out a successful career with hits such as “I Get Ideas,” ”To Each His Own,” ”Begin the Beguine” and “There’s No Tomorrow.”

“He’s the ultimate crooner who outlasted all his contemporaries,” musician and longtime friend Gabriel Guerrero said from his Oregon home. Martin recently sang to Guerrero over the telephone.

“He has truly remained the butterscotch baritone until he was 98,” Guerrero added.

Martin, also married two movie musical superstars, Alice Faye and Cyd Charisse. In his marriage to Charisse, it would last 60 years until her death in 2008.

In an interview I did last year with the legendary comedian Pat Cooper, he said “Tony Martin was a Class Act.”

RSR extends our deepest condolences to the Martin family. RIP Tony, I always enjoyed your music….
