Floyd Mayweather JR NEXT OPPONENT NAMED: SHOWTIME DEAL Announced – Boxing News

By Geno McGahee

The pound for pound best in the game, Floyd Mayweather, JR., just signed on the dotted line with the Showtime network, inking a six fight deal, starting with a May 4th showdown with Robert Guerrero. Floyd has been with HBO for a long time, but money talks and Money Mayweather has been taken away to the network. This is the biggest loss for HBO since the Mike Tyson move to Showtime, but the network has vowed to “move on.” With so few big names in boxing, it should be interesting to see what fighter they try to use to float their pay per views. Manny Pacquiao won’t cut it anymore, especially after two defeats.

Floyd is on a collision course with Canelo Alvarez, but he has a tough customer in front of him on May 4th. Floyd cost the network big bucks. It should be interesting to see if the deal pays off. Mayweather isn’t getting any younger and guys like Guerrero have given him trouble in the past. Jose Luis Castillo and Emanuel Augustus both presented aggressive fighters with good chins and plenty of ambition. Guerrero appears to have the same characteristics and will try to solve the puzzle. With Floyd moving a lot less and allowing openings, he may be able to figure it out. This May 4th showdown may not be a closely contested match on paper, but there is plenty of room for an upset.

Regardless of network, we are going to have an interesting fight on our hands.
