Wife Murdered: HIV SHOCKER – Phoenix Man STABS Wife & Son in AIDS Case

By Geno McGahee

Eugene Maraventano, 63, stabbed his wife with a 14-inch kitchen knife while she slept, killing her. He then killed his son, Bryan Maraventano, 27, fatally stabbing him as well. His motive was disturbing. He stated that he may have contracted AIDS from prostitutes that he was with years earlier and gave the virus to his wife.

His initial plan appeared to be a murder/suicide, noting to a 911 dispatcher that “I killed my wife and I killed my son; I can’t kill myself.”

The motive for killing his son was out of concern. In the twisted mind of Maraventano, he didn’t want his son to deal with life without his parents. He also noted that his son was probably mentally disabled because he didn’t have a girlfriend and played video games all day.

Maraventano stated that he attempted suicide several times but wasn’t able to accomplish it. This is unfortunately a common pattern with murderers like this. The murder/suicide doesn’t usually end with a suicide.
