Jodi Arias, 32, is the latest trial to capture the public’s imagination and the comparisons are being drawn to Casey Anthony, the “Tot Mom” that was accused of murdering her daughter but was later found not guilty. The comparison to the cases isn’t really there, outside of the fact that we have two young and attractive females with a history of lying, accused of murder, and both have gotten the attention of outspoken talk show host, Nancy Grace.
A new development in the case has arisen, proving the irrational nature of Arias. Four months prior to the death of Travis Alexander, he reported to the police that his tires were slashed, but did not inform the police just who he suspected. The call was not introduced into the trial, but there has been testimony from witnesses regarding the slashing.
The destruction of property is the least of the concerns for Arias, who is charged with first degree murder and may be put to death should she be convicted. Her history of lying may come back to bite her in the end. She initially stated that she was nowhere near the house when Travis was murdered even though a bloody handprint was found matching hers. She then came up with a story that she was there but that two masked assailants broke in and tormented her and killed Travis. Eventually, she came forward and admitted killing Travis, but she turned herself into the victim. None of this can sit with the jury very well.
It has been stated by the prosecution and backed up by several witnesses that Arias became a stalker, obsessed with Travis. That obsession eventually led to the stabbing and shooting murder that she is accused of. Looking at her, it’s difficult to see her in that role, but during the police interrogations, it becomes easier. She came off as dishonest and selfish, asking to fix her make up and hair prior to taking a mug shot. She comes off as unlikable.
