RSR Boxing Results: Miguel Cotto Stops Yuri Foreman
Miguel Cotto TKO’s Yuri Foreman
Miguel Cotto, 35-2, 28 KO’s, won the WBA Light Middleweight Title from Yuri Foreman, 28-1, 8 KO’s, via TKO in 9. Cotto proved too strong for him from the opening bell as Foreman moved. Cotto landed some great jabs that jarred the defending champion. Foreman had his moments with some straight rights but none of them bothered Cotto as he continued to come forward. Foreman would twist his knee and lose all mobility and became a stationary target for the Puerto Rican superstar. Foreman would topple to the floor over and over again from the bad leg and to his credit, he had many opportunities to quit, but showed the heart of a champion.
One of the strangest moments is when a towel was thrown into the ring, prompting Cotto to celebrate and the ring to be flooded with people. Arthur Mercante, JR., cleared the ring and the fight continued and a left hook to the body along with another slip prompted the ref to end the fight and gave Cotto another title. It was a good fight for Cotto on the rebound.
On the undercard, junior middleweight Vanes Martirosyan, 28-0, 17 KO’s, outpointed Joe Greene, 22-1, 14 KO’s, with a ten round nod by scores of 96-93 (twice) and 98-91.
Roman Karmazin and Sebastian Sylvester Battle to a Draw
IBF Middleweight Champion, Sebastian Sylvester, 33-3-1, 16 KO’s, battled an even fight with challenger and former champion, Roman Karmazin, 40-3-2, 26 KO’s, by scores of 118-111 for Sylvester, 117-111 for Karmazin, and 114-114. Sylvester displayed his great defense while Karmazin stalked, leading to a fight that could have gone either way and ended in an appropriate draw.
