Adrien Broner DEFEATS Paulie Malignaggi – FIX WAS IN?: BOXING NEWS & RESULTS

By Geno McGahee

Adrien Broner, 27-0, 22 KO’s, captured the WBA welterweight title via split decision over defending champion, Paulie Malignaggi, 32-5, 7 KO’s, by scores of 113-115, 115-113 and 117-111. It was a close fight with Malignaggi using quantity over quality and keeping Broner in a shell. At times, Broner used his power advantage, but he was not the overwhelming force that many anticipated. The fight could have gone either way and could have been a draw, but the 117-111 was nonsense and that judge needs to be questioned. RSR had it 115-113 for Broner, but the rounds were close.

Malignaggi noted that the fight was close and that the 117-111 was a disgrace and he was right, despite the fact that Jim Gray, Showtime announcer, tried to remind him about his commentating gig and basically threatened his job. Malignaggi was correct and Broner showed zero class after the fight, continuing his insults toward Paulie and his personal life as his tubby father laughed on. Broner’s father must get paid well to support his cupcake habit. I’m sure if he showed up at the Hostess hearings, the Twinkie would still be in business.

This is the sort of fight card that you walk away from feeling dirty. Mitchell’s win over Banks, where Banks did nothing…cruised to the defeat, and then the lopsided card for the cash cow, on the De La Hoya card, makes you wonder. What is going on behind the scenes? This is why people hate boxing. I had Malignaggi losing, but I think that the 117-111 was filled out prior to the fight.
