ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights
Canadian middleweight, David Limieux, 23-0, 22 KO’s, took on his toughest challenge when he faced former title challenger, Elvin Ayala, 20-5-1, 9 KO’s, and did not fail to impress, scoring a first round knockout. From the opening bell, the two slugged it out with Limieux landing a left hand that send Ayala to the floor. He would arise and be dropped shortly thereafter and it became a game of survival. Limieux showed his short punches on the inside and caught Ayala often as he attempted to get close to hold on. Limieux would back up a step and unleash his hard punches, stunning his opponent at will.
Wobbly, another barrage would drop Ayala to the floor face first and end the fight.
In a mini-upset, Brian Vera, 17-4, 11 KO’s, surprised another favored opponent when he knocked out Sebastien Demers, 31-3, 11 KO’s, in the third round. A combination dropped Demers and he arose on wobbly legs and was quickly stopped. Vera has put himself back into position to be a player in boxing by shocking another top contender by knockout.
