Beltway-area amateurs began their first day of competition at the Junior Nationals at Camp Lejeune, NC with good performances. Five boxers moved onto the next round.

At 119 pounds, Gervonta Davis of Baltimore stopped Alexis Garcia of Atwater, CA at 1:49 of the second round.

In a 145-pound bout, Demetrius Martin of Forestville, MD decisioned Martin Morales of Eufaula, OK, 5-3.

During the evening session, Aujee Tyler of Temple Hills, MD won his 106-pound bout by a 7-1 decision over Cristian Williams of Crete, IL.

Patrick Harris of Capitol Heights, MD also won at 114 pounds by a 12-1 decision over Luciano Gonzales of Lancaster, CA.

Also at 138 pounds, Dusty Harrison of DC shutout Jose Guadamama of Lanton, OK 7-0.

Two Beltway hopefuls did not advance — Abdiel Rivera of Salisbury, MD lost by decision in a 132-pound bout to Jaime Bojado of Avondale, AZ 18-7 while Tavon Body of Burtonsville, MD lost at 154 pounds to Jonathan Esquivel of Anaheim, CA 9-1.

The tournament continues until June 19.
