Andre Ward DOMINATES Edwin Rodriguez: HBO BOXING RESULTS – Super Middleweight Champion Still Unbeaten and Pound for Pound Best

By Geno McGahee

Andre Ward, 27-0, 14 KO’s, had no problem controlling the wild brawler, Edwin Rodriguez, 24-1, 16 KO’s, en route to a unanimous decision by scores of 118-106, 117-107 and 116-108. Rodriguez ran at Ward from the opening bell, but the two immediately fell into a clinch, which was the theme of the night. Rodriguez had no answer for the puzzle of Ward and as the rounds went on, Ward began landing flush and forcing his opponent into a shell.

The only drama of the fight came in the fourth round when the two got heated and kept fighting as referee, Jack Reese, stepped in. Rodriguez landed his best shot of the night in the process…a grazing left hook to the chin of Reese. The ref took it well but deducted 2 points each fighter for unsportsmanlike conduct and suggested fines for both men.

There was nothing that Rodriguez could do and it was an ugly affair. It was a very typical Ward fight. He befuddles his opponents with his clinching, mauling style, and he has beaten the best in the world. He is the #2 pound for pound best in the world based on his in-ring accomplishments and style, but he’s not the most exciting. Is there an opponent that can crack the code and get to Ward? It’s yet to be seen.

The stars were out as well with Mike Tyson and Sugar Ray Leonard in attendance. With all that talent in the arena, it needed to be evened out. So, in steps Rob Schneider, one of the least funny comedians in history. Thank you Rob for your contribution to the night.
