RSR Message Board Update
By Mike “Rubber Warrior” Plunkett
The latest installment of Showtime’s brilliant super middleweight Super Six Tournament produced for the first time a fighter that had won two bouts since the tourney’s inception, not to mention cause for a raised eyebrow given the apparent ease with which he vanquished a much respected foe. “Dear Allan Green” is an open letter thread that addresses the pedestrian effort the tourney’s newest fighter seemed to submit long before the bell ending the bout had sounded, apologies to the victor, Andre Ward, notwithstanding. Looking back at the tourney a little further in the hopes of looking into the future, Goldenstatefan has created a timely thread, “Revisiting Abraham-Dirrell”, asking aloud if time has in some way filtered truth from illusion and if the suspected thespian in question has the goods to make it to the trophy.
If you are like me you may periodically find yourself missing certain fighters from years gone by. Amidst the ongoing cry for new lifeblood and some drama at heavyweight, I created the thread “I Miss Joe Mesi”. In a way it doesn’t seem like it was all that long ago that the Italian-American boxer-puncher was tearing through all of the better known journeyman in the heavyweight division, but the reality is Mesi was rabbit punched and ultimately sidetracked off of the highway of pugilistic success almost seven years ago. It’s a feel good look back-type of thread that uses hindsight and that certain hazy element of emotional kinship, asking if in fact there was a way that “Baby Joe” just might have made it to a heavyweight championship if he hadn’t met up with a monster of a cruiserweight at precisely the wrong moment in time. It’s a thread well worth your attention. It’s all here and its ready for your two cents and it can all be found in our Boxing Discussions forum. For those of you that are not currently a member of RSR and would like to take part in the various forums and fight polls, act now using the link to submit your request.
