Julio Cesar Chavez, JR Wins Against Bryan Vera – Boxing News

Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. got his career back on track with an entertaining twelve round decision win in his rematch against Bryan Vera on Saturday night in front of 7,323 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr: This time I prepared to win round by round and not to make weight. A week before I was on weight and I was able to work. Losing the weight wasn’t a problem and it didn’t take my strength away…I made a better fight this time and we won more clearly. I proved to all the people I’m a better fighter than Bryan Vera.

[On fighting Gennady Golovkin] I like that fight because Gennady Golovkin is a great fighter, a strong fighter. He’s undefeated. One of the best in the middleweight division. I’d like to fight Gennady Golovkin next.

Bryan Vera: I found out four days ago that it was a twelve round fight. We trained for a ten-rounder. It’s always something when we come to these f**king fights. But I’m a fighter, I always give people a great fight.

There was some discussion of Chavez facing Golovkin in a July 12 pay-per-views promotion, but K2 Promotions managing director Tom Loeffler made it known Saturday that due to the recent death of Golovkin’s father, the champ will now take some time off from the ring. This will also mean a proposed April 26 fight between Golovkin and Andy Lee in New York City will not go forward.

Promoter Bob Arum said Chavez will likely return on HBO July 12, then go on to a pay-per-view showdown against Golovkin, Jean Pascal or Carl Froch.
