Bernard Hopkins OUTPOINTS Beibut Shumenov – SHOWTIME BOXING RESULTS – BOXING NEWS

By Geno McGahee

Bernard Hopkins, 55-6-2, 32 KO’s, had no problems controlling the slow, self-trained plodder, Beibut Shumenov, 14-2, 9 KO’s, en route to a ridiculous split decision by scores of 116-111 (twice) and 113-114 . The 49-year-old “Alien” used his ring smarts and technique to easily befuddle and outland a relatively unwilling Shumenov over basically every round, and added insult to injury by dropping him in the 11th round. Hopkins knows who to fight and Shumenov, being so slow and raw, was an easy pick and this end result wasn’t difficult to predict.

Shumenov didn’t even try to win this one. He was barely throwing any punches and never got anything going. In the end, Shumenov was exposed and Hopkins lives on. This fight was never in question and you have a feeling that one of the judges had some money riding on Beibut to take it home.

With Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev in the division, there are options for Hopkins if he really wants to see where he is. Shumenov, by far, was the weakest of the champions at 175 and it was proven.
