Team RSR Fight Picks: Chad Dawson Vs Jean Pascal
This Saturday, arguably the world’s two best light heavyweights will battle for the WBC Light Heavyweight Championship and the vacant Ring Magazine belt. Chad Dawson is the consensus #1 ranked 175 pound fight in the world, yet he will technically come into the fight as the challenger against Jean Pascal. Dawson dumped the IBF belt he won from Antonio Tarver before his November win over Glen Johnson.
Pascal won the WBC strap with a 2009 unanimous decision over Adrian Diaconu. The bout will take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, giving Pascal the home town advantage.
The team of writers at RSR offer their predictions for this battle of rising young stars.
“Bad” Brad Berkwitt
Chad Dawson by a tough majority decision.
Geno McGahee
Chad Dawson by wide unanimous decision.
Gary “Digital” Williams
I like Dawson. I think he has enough power to get the job done.
Michael “Rubber Warrior” Plunkett
My heart says Pascal, but logic dictates a competitive Chad Dawson wins via closer than expected unanimous decision.
Eric Fleming
I pick Chad Dawson.
Brian Wilbur
Chad Dawson is getting matched tough here, challenging himself against the best available opposition. Pascal is no push over and is similar to Dawson in many ways. However I have a hard time betting against Dawson vs. anyone at light heavyweight or below. He is young, talented, and on a roll right now. Dawson wins a competitive decision.
Final Tally
Chad Dawson – 6
Jean Pascal – 0
