RSR Boxing Results: Tomasz Adamek Outpoints Michael Grant

By Geno McGahee

Tomasz Adamek, 42-1, 27 KO’s, used movement and bursts of punches to outpoint Michael Grant, 46-4, 34 KO’s, taking the UD by 117-111, 118-110, and 118-111, although the scorecards seemed a little off.  RSR had Adamek winning 116-112.

It was obvious from the opening round that Grant was having a hard time pulling the trigger, continually following Adamek around the ring and looking for the spot.  He jabbed occasionally but hardly ever released the right hand.  Adamek seemed to buzz Grant in the first round, but after that, he didn’t seem to have much effect on him.  Grant’s age and loss of reflexes prevented him from landing the finishing shot.

This fight was used as a gauge to see how Adamek would do against the Klitschko brothers, and it doesn’t look good.  Adamek had big troubles with the size difference and was hurt with the only punch that Grant landed flush.  With a prime and precise Klitschko brother across the ring from him, expect Adamek to be stopped.  He doesn’t hit hard enough to hurt a real heavyweight and doesn’t seem to have the chin or defense to stop a giant heavyweight like Wlad or Vitali.

There is talk about Adamek taking on WBA Champion, David Haye, which is his best bet out of the current champions, although he would enter as a very large underdog considering tonight’s performance.
