Floyd Mayweather JR: Manny Pacquiao, Liam Neeson, Next Opponent & More

By Jim Minkle

The pound for pound best in the game, Floyd Mayweather, JR., 43-0, 26 KO’s, is in the beginning stages of planning his next fight and we all know that it will not be Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao has elected to take on Juan Manuel Marquez again rather than take the fight that the world wants, but he did make it a point to lay out the challenge to Floyd immediately after he signed to fight Marquez. Manny reminds me of one of those guys that has their friends hold their arms and scream: “You’re lucky they’re holding me back!” There is no real intention to fight.

Floyd has two great opponents in waiting. Canelo Alvarez is my choice and would make the best fight style-wise for Floyd. He is aggressive and will either be custom-made for Money Mayweather or will be the guy that breaks through and ends the undefeated streak. The other is Sergio Martinez, an awkward volume puncher with great timing and a great feel for the ring. He just beat what looked to be a 200 pound Julio Cesar Chavez, JR., but not without troubles. He climbed off the floor in the last round, but the guy was a heavyweight. That’s what happens when you have the munchies.

Recently, TAKEN 2 star, Liam Neeson, had some things to say about a Pacquiao-Mayweather match. He noted that: “I think he’s scared of Pacquaio… I don’t mean he is scared, like terrified of his life, but I think he thinks he can see in Pacquiao someone that could beat him.”

Now, I’m a Neeson fan, but I have to disagree with you here Liam. Pacquiao is the one that has found his way out of it more often than not. Well, fatso Bob Arum is another guilty party here, but Floyd is the lesser of the evils. Floyd did play the money game at times, but Manny was more interested in talking about the fight then actually doing it. Arum knows that he will lose and that is the biggest reason why the fight did not occur.

Floyd should be announcing his next opponent soon. Let’s hope that it’s Alvarez.

Who is responsible for Mayweather - Pacquiao not happening?
