Dragon’s Call II – VIDEO GAME UPDATE & NEWS

Good news to fans of Dragon’s Call II! Server 4, which is a European server named Pandar Prairie, is slated to be released at 9:00 am, October 17th(GMT+1).

Here is to share the review of this game, written by Rokkumon – one original volunteer of Gamedp (http://www.gamedp.com/). Below is the Dragon’s Call II Review-

When you think of a sequel for a game being announced, many thoughts run through your mind. What’s going to be new? What’s going to be upgraded? What’s going to be the same? Will it be an entirely new game altogether, or will it be an evolved form of the previous title release? A multitude of expectations can become a part of your mindset early on, but until you are able to get a hand on feel for most games, you never really know what to expect. When Ray Media Group announced they would soon be releasing a sequel to the great browser based MMO Dragon’s Call, I too had many thoughts running through my core. Though I never wanted to give to early of an expectation on my feelings of the first release and intertwine my thoughts with what the sequel might hold, it was just too easy to premeditate my expectations of what would soon be the future of Ray Media Group’s newest asset: Dragon’s Call 2: The Beginning of the End.

Ray Media Group has taken on their project of Dragon’s Call 2 full steam ahead and proves that it takes more than just a rehash of an old game to bring something new to its community. Instead of having a simple point-and-click format similar to the initial Dragon’s Call, Ray Media has brought a new evolved format of the point-and-click era to their newborn release. Instead of being a simple screen display where players would constantly click links of NPCs and monsters to speak and battle, there is a new sense of discovery and adventure in Dragon’s Call 2. With the release of a side-scrolling format, DC2 brings players the ability to actually travel throughout the lands of Stilland and see the beauty it owns and put a real “facade” to the world we once had to imagine that we believed was there. The new town and environmental maps are gloriously designed by the artists at Ray Media and delivered with awe inspiring imagery. Being able to see individuals’ towns and maps in a true scale is simply joyful compared to the overworld view of which many players are accustomed. Finally, Ray Media is delivering the sense of diving directly into the landscapes of Stilland for which many role players have been pining.

The battle system is something that seems familiar while at the same time delivering an overall tactical addition to Dragon’s Call 2. For many years, I have seen Dragon’s Call as more than just an MMORPG. There has always been that feeling of strategy and skill building that makes it more of a Strategic/Tactical RPG than simply a fly-by-night RPG. With the new addition of the “Formation” and “Reputation” systems, the strategy involved in this new MMO release begs players to utilize their Pals and formation setups along with the extensive item refinement system to prepare the perfect battle plan to become the strongest player in the land. It’s going to take more than just a single character’s brute force in DC2 in order to become a supreme overlord this time around. Learning to utilize your talent in scouting the perfect formation of Pals through the reputation system and learning which skills they have will benefit you the most while also balancing your budget to keep their gears properly refined is going to be a giant task in and of itself. Some people may take a first glance and think, “Oh, just another RPG, I’ll pass,” but without spending a few weeks in order to truly explore the systems Dragon’s Call 2 possesses, you may very well be passing on one of the most strategic based RPGs to date.

Refining has changed a bit from the previous version. Not having been able to explore it in its extreme ends, refining seems to be a bit easier than in the original DC. You used to be required to always have “Lucky Gems” in order to upgrade gear and would have a surmountable chance of failing your refining and dropping a few to many levels at a time. So far, it seems refining is heavily based on your gold bank and just how many riches and valuables you have obtained in order to spend large surpluses of funds to upgrade your many characters’ equipments. Eventually, at certain grades you will receive that shiny upgraded gear so many people are familiar with. It is hard to tell this early on in the release how the end-game gears will benefit players, but it indeed looks promising and is definitely one portion of DC2 interested parties would want to stick around to see.

Becoming a stronger force through gear refine is essential in powering through some of the more entertaining systems in Dragon’s Call 2. The quest line starts off seemingly easy and becomes more potent with the need for a powerful team later on in the story. This is just one minor facet of the jewel that is DC2 which will garner your attention en masse. One of the largest inclusions to the spectacle of Dragon’s Call 2 would be World and Guild Bosses. Never before have players been able to join into large-scale battles with eagerly waiting foes of enormous stature. Joining a World or Guild boss battle and seeing the numerous others join in the fray is excitement in itself. Instead of feeling like a long, played out single player game, the multiplayer aspect is finally shown more and more each time you take down one of these frightful bosses with insane loads of hit points and seemingly unlimited power. Another tough problem that arises and calls for the need of a strong group is the implementation of elite instances. This new piece of DC2 gives players the chance at some rare drops, but with only the ability to complete them one time each, players will find the need to prepare their formation and team properly based on what they obtain sometimes. More strategy – more fun!

While the equipment refine function offers incredible stats boosts to your team, Ray Media Group is not stopping at just that. New features such as the Bloodsoul system and the Horoscope system are sure to deliver those extra attributes your group is yearning for as well. With the Bloodsoul addition, players are able to obtain a new “currency” of Bloodsoul in order to fill up their Bloodsoul talent tree in order to gain permanent boosts to their character’s main stats. It is a seemingly minor addition but it becomes very useful the more you are able to unlock. The Horoscope system was something that caught me by surprise. Given a small sneak peak, one would not understand how it works, but knowing now how it works after being hands-on with the interface and being able to actually get the works going, it is quite a challenging system of which to get a grasp. You spend the simplest game currency, gold, for a chance to unlock different souls which are based on many different horoscopes with catchy new names. After obtaining large quantities of a single soul type you can combine them into a stronger soul and get even larger boosts. You start off with a few slots to add souls to and can unlock more. It seems to be an expensive system but the overall bonuses are incredible.

It is difficult to write a review and cover everything because when you do it does not leave much for others to explore on their own. There are many more things one could cover while reviewing this game, but the thought is left that it would be best to leave the rest to interested parties to discover for themselves. Overall, Dragon’s Call 2 was an exciting game to play during the Closed Beta and will surely garner many new fans and have a giant rush of current veterans of the original DC that will join in the fray. Ray Media Group is proving their ability to take an existing property and create an entirely new experience from it. There is no telling where Dragon’s Call 2 will go for now, but this author believes this is more than the Beginning of the End; more like the beginning of a new era in Stilland’s long running history.

*A special thanks goes out to Trunks and Ilydia for assisting in verifying certain interfaces and how they work. *
