Ask the Fighter: “Baby” Joe Mesi Answers RSR Readers Questions – Email Bag
Mike Tyson?
Baby Joe,
Enjoyed the interview very much. I see you mentioned a Tyson fight. Do you really think you could have beaten an even faded Mike? I don’ think you could handle his punching power. How do you think you would have won the fight?
Darryl T
Darryl,
I do. Let’s not forget Mike had terrible losses to Kevin McBride & Danny Williams end of his career and basically quit against Lewis. Now, Iron Mike will always be the most ferocious fighter in history but later in his career showed that he lacked confidence and heart. Just survive the first three rounds with speedy foot work and I have to believe he would mentally give up due to confusion and frustration. But much respect for that man, they’re will never be another like him.
Biggest Purse?
Joe,
What was the biggest paycheck in your boxing career? What did you buy with it?
Lisa B.
Lisa,
I’d rather not mention a dollar amount although I’m sure my purses from my HBO fights can be found somewhere online. Although as I mentioned in the interview my best fights emotionally & financially were the ones held in Buffalo. Where I was co promoter and most of the profits went to us.
David Izon Mad?
Sir Mesi,
I watched you face my main man David Izon and kick the shit out of him. Why you be so hard on him? Did he piss you on before the fight? I hear he cry lots after fight and you made him feel better by saying good fights. If you fights him right now who wins rematch?
Ousani A.
Ousani,
David Izon was an excellent and extremely strong fighter. I remember my pro debut when I watched him knock out Lou Savarese and thinking, I hope never to run into this guy. It took me nine long rounds to end it. He was a class act and I am sure he still is.
MRS Mesi
“Baby Joe”,
Nice to see you are a family man now. Family is everything. My husband boxed years ago and I always was scared when he went in the ring. How did your wife feel? Would you let any of your kids become boxers?
Thanks-
Melissa Sanchez
Melissa,
My wife Michelle was my biggest fan, but was uneasy on fight day naturally. As for “Baby Joe” who is only two, I doubt boxing is in his future and that is alright with me. Boxing is an incredible sport, but it’s not a great business. I always encourage boxing for fitness and fun, there is nothing better. As for a serious career, I would look extremely close at the individual pursuing it.
