Shannon Briggs“Shannon Briggs sit down, before Wladimir Klitschko sits you down already”–Duff Johnson, President of Wladimir Klitschko Fan Club of Idaho

On April 25 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko is planning to fight in the United States for the first time since 2008. There has been talk of Klitschko facing Bryant Jennings, but with negotiations apparently hitting a snag, WBA #6 heavyweight Shannon Briggs (57-6-1, 50 KOs), who has been in dogged pursuit of a fight with Wlad, is making it known that from both a logical and business standpoint he should be the one to fight Klitschko next.

“I really believe that Briggs-Klitschko April 25th at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York should happen. I mean, I literally was born and raised in the same neighborhood as the site of the fight,” said Briggs. “This is a business. Viewership is a very important part of it. Nobody he can fight right now is going to do the ratings that he and I will do. My pursuit of Klitschko in 2014 alone has in essence turned out to be a pre-promotion for the fight. I have already got the promotional ball rolling by myself.

“This is what the fans want and the numbers support this. Don’t take my word for it. The poll by German media giant BILD had a resounding 72% wanting Briggs-Klitschko to fight next. Wlad said he wants what they want. ‘I want what the fans want, also Briggs,’ said Klitschko previously.

“Look at the viewership numbers of the millions who watched videos of me in pursuit of Wlad. I mean what other candidates on the list can bring that kind of self promotion that I have brought and will bring to this fight?

“You have seen the attention that has been drawn so far. Can you imagine the build up to the fight once it was officially announced?

“No other candidate brings the credentials I bring to this fight of being former two-time world champion, having fought Hall of Famers, and beaten at least one. Wlad can’t even say that, but I’m sure he can say ‘LETS GO CHAMP!!!!!’”
