Andre Ward CALLING OUT Carl Froch: England May Be the Location

A few weeks ago I did an article about how the WBA ordered a rematch between Andre Ward and Carl Froch, and why it’s only significant if it happens in the UK. Andre Ward has very few interesting options at 168 lbs and, since he already beat Froch convincingly, the only way to make this fight significant is to fight Froch in England. By going across the pond, Ward can hush the critics who say he’s afraid to fight out of his comfort zone.

Andre Ward must have heard this demand from fans as he has gone back on his previous insinuation that he doesn’t need to go to England to prove anything. In an interview with Sky Sports out of the UK, Ward has said he is willing to fight Froch in England, just not in Nottingham because when Froch fought Ward in America it was all the way across the country from Ward’s hometown of Oakland, California in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Atlantic City is a six hour flight from Oakland, so it was essentially a road fight for Ward as well, who has no fan base on the East Coast. Ward has proposed a fight in London at the famous Wembley Stadium.

A fight at Wembley is a fair compromise, and one that makes the fight hold a bit of significance. Unfortunately, Froch has just come out saying that he would rather face Julio Cesar Chavez, JR.and that he doubts Ward can even make super middleweight anymore. The ball is in Froch’s court now but he has other options, whereas Ward really doesn’t at 168 lbs.
