New DayBy Nick “Red” Conley

I am certainly not the only one who thinks it is time for the WWE to dump and officially get rid of the tag team “New Day,” which consists of Kofi Kingston, Big E Langston, and Xavier Woods. The New Day’s eccentric and overjoyed gimmick was immediately rejected and dead on arrival when they debuted in November 2014. “New Day” has hit new lows in recent months with poor booking and a louder than normal level of boos during appearances on Monday Night Raw and Thursday Night Smackdown. We have even witnessed the recent introduction of a catchy new phrase “New Day Sucks.” Not very clever, but catchy nonetheless. The latest low was the April 2 edition of Smackdown when the “Prime Time Players” issued a promo mocking and belittling New Day. If WWE allows the Prime Time Players to issue a promo mocking you, you know things have gotten bad.

The New Day’s failure is probably a combination of several factors, to include a cheesy gimmick, poor storytelling, and bad booking. Also, the WWE University is immensely critical these days of new gimmicks, so if the WWE introduces one, it better be good. It really is unfortunate what happened to the wrestlers in New Day, particularly Kofi Kingston and Big E Langston. Kingston was always a fan favorite and known for his high-flying moves and energy in the ring. While Kingston rarely won any big matches over the last year or so, he still wrestled every match like it was a main event and the fans respected him for it. Big E has had his ups and downs over the last year, but his high point was probably when he attempted to take down Rusev. He lost of course, but he played up the pro-America theme and the fans rallied. Xavier Woods on the other hand never seemed to resonate with the fans nor do I think he ever will. Certainly after Xavier Woods’ role in the New Day, it will be very difficult for him to become a fan favorite, or even tolerated by the fans. I think there is still hope for Kofi though, but WWE needs to do something quick or else his image will be eternally tarnished.

Whether it is just scrapping New Day and keeping these three superstars off the air for a few months while WWE Creative brainstorms another brilliant idea for them, or maybe play up frustration within the tag team and have Kofi walk out to go solo again, something certainly needs to be done, and needs to be done soon. More and more fans are turning on New Day each week, and it is becoming cringe worthy to watch.
