We all have dreams. Those dreams vary from far-fetched, fantasy inspired wishes to realistic, obtainable goals. In our hearts, we all know the probability of obtaining those dreams. Sometimes fear paralyzes us, and we stop short of reaching for them. Other times, life simply gets in the way, and hurdles that we may perceive to be insurmountable discourage us from pursuing those dreams. However, there are some people who are relentless in the pursuit of our dreams, and will not succumb to obstacles, real or imagined. What is the difference between those who achieve their goals, who live their dreams, who defy the odds and the majority of us who accept life as it comes to us? How can we achieve our dreams?

As I sat behind the lens in our filming of The “Bad” Brad Berkwitt show, with our guest, Colby “Dream Catcher” Fletcher, I reflected on those things. The conversation that she had with “Bad” Brad spurred those thoughts into my mind. Daily, we see people who may have had lofty dreams simply stall, give up, divert themselves from what they were passionate about. As the interview unfolded, I heard a young woman, innocent, humble, yet fiercely dedicated to achieving her dreams. One needs only to look at her nickname to see that she is indeed in pursuit of her dreams.

The old saying that “good things come to those who wait” isn’t true. There is no pot of gold sitting at the end of the rainbow, and pennies don’t rain from heaven. Good things come to those who expend the effort to get those things. Sitting before me was a young woman who is both ambitious and hardworking. Her dream to become a successful MMA Fighter at Bellator is balanced with the reality of earning a living now and life after fighting. She teaches classes at Fight Science Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma, works as a waitress on weekends, and trains at a pace to be able to fight competitively. As if that weren’t enough on her plate, she also attends college at a local school in hopes of it leading to a career in wildlife rehab. Those qualities are essential in obtaining goals. One must be dedicated and hard-working, willing to undergo temporary inconveniences to achieve permanent goals. This young lady is built of such a fiber that she sat in the rain and cold to watch the Fight of The Century. Reflect on that the next time that minor inconveniences place a hurdle in the path of reaching a goal.

Anything worthwhile is worth working for. Obtaining goals and living our dreams require dedication, sacrifice, commitment, and persistence. Regardless of where we are in our journey in life, keep dreaming! Know that dreams can come true, but will rarely be handed to us on a silver platter. It is impossible to strike anything specific unless we aim for it. Set goals, leap the hurdles that may be present, and live the dream.
