Packy’s World: Sugar Ray Leonard, HGTV, Charles Bronson, My Pal Al & Lenny Bruce Posthumously Awarded The Chutzpah Award
By Packy “Boom Boom” Goldstein
Oy Vay are you going to hear it today… My Sadie is back to breaking my bagels again since she loves her kitchen remodel so much, she wants to redo the guest bathroom in our condo. Oy to the double Vay! But remember RSR readers, a happy wife, makes for a happy life. Or maybe I should say, a happy wife makes for a set of bagels not being broken and enjoying peace along with tranquility!
Either way, I am actually looking forward to the Paulie Malignaggi Vs Danny Garcia fight Saturday night on ESPN. I saw Bradley AKA “Bad” Brad on his RSR Video Email Bag going out on a limb saying “The Magic Man” would pull the upset. I am not so sure of that and based on his lack of power and getting starched in his last fight against the talented, Shawn Porter, I have to bet against Bradley and go with Garcia by 7th round TKO.
Sugar Ray Leonard… The more I watch old tapes of him, the more am I reminded of what a magical fighter that he was and that I truly enjoyed watching and knowing over the years through the late Angelo Dundee. Floyd Mayweather, JR. could not shine his shoes, I will tell you that folks!
HGTV… Yes, I love it dammit! I am willing to admit it even if my Poker buddies would kick me in the bagels twice if they knew I watched HGTV. Thanks to Sadie, I watch Flip or Flop, Property Brothers, Fixer Upper (my personal favorite), Beach Flip, and Love It Or List It. That hot pooty on Love It Or List IT could have played hide the Kosher Pickle with me in my single days!
Charles Bronson… What a great actor he was. Nobody today touches him in the roles he played. Here are my top five favorite movies of his of all time which are must watches!
5. The Great Escape
4. Death Wish
3. Breakheart Pass
2. Hard Times
1. Breakout
My Pal Al (“Bad” Brad’s Father) … I have been really missing Al of us late with a soon to be Presidential election and boxing back on mainstream TV, the talks we could have! Al could do great voices! One day, I have a message on my home phone from Al, but he did the message as JFK. Here is exactly how the call went! “Packy, you SOB, this is John F. Ask not what your girlfriend can do for you, but what she is currently doing to me!” I was on the floor dying and wish I still had that message on my phone today!
The Chutzpah Award… Lenny Bruce is posthumously awarded The Chutzpah Award for his brilliant comedy way ahead of its time. Al knew Lenny and we saw him many times on Miami Beach. Before he got screwed up totally on the drugs and the legal system shafted him royally, he was “Comedy Royalty” that you can take the bank. In fact, the stuff he said back than that they used against him, is timid compared to the filthy stuff they say today on a comedy stage. RIP you Jewish Prince….
