Anderson Silva Suspended from the UFC: INSIDE STORY – Breaking MMA News
By Nathan “Diesel” Hendrickson
Back in January of this year, Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz fought. It was an important fight for ” The Spider” Silva because it was a comeback fight after his nasty injury in his last fight against Chris Weideman. He was out for over a year with his injury.
In the fight before that, Anderson Silva was knocked out for the first time in his career against Chris Weidman and lost his belt.
Needless to say, the fight against Diaz was extremely important in order for a rapidly aging Silva to get back into title contention.
Nick Diaz always had a better mouth that he had cage skills. In January, he was in bad need of a payday. Nick Diaz is also known for being a connoisseur of marijuana.
Anderson Silva we all remember easily wanted decision against Diaz but news came out soon afterwards of drug problems.
Nick Diaz tested positive for marijuana. In a shocker, Anderson Silva tested positive for growth hormone.
It has taken seven months for Anderson Silva’s hearing before the Nevada State Athletic Commission to take place. In the past several months we have heard conflicting stories about Silva having a positive drug test, then a negative drug test, Silva denying taking any performance enhancing drugs, Silva admitting taking drugs but it was under doctor supervision for his old leg injury, etc.
The latest news report was that Anderson Silva was claiming that his positive drug test was the result of a sexual performance drug. This latest report was two days old, and I was going to write an article about it.
The latebreaking news this evening is that the NSAC has met, and Anderson Silva has been suspended for one year, his win over Nick Diaz is been changed into a no contest, he has to forfeit his win bonus, and pay back the Nevada state attorney general for expenses.
At this time, Anderson Silva has not commented. Due to Anderson Silva’s age and the ring rust he has accumulated, this could very well mean the end of Anderson Silva’s career.
Just two years ago he was considered the best pound for pound fighter in the world and was thought to be unbeatable. It is a sad chapter in this fighter’s history.
