Terence Crawford: This Bud is Blossoming and May See a True Rose if he Faces Manny Pacquiao in the Near Future
By Anthony “Stacks” Saldaña
Throughout the Cornhusker State electricity is in the air, a perfect storm is brewing. One in which Nebraska’s own Terence “Bud” Crawford delivers monstrous midwest thunder and lightning with every punch delivered during his fights. Earlier this year Crawford, 26-0,18 KO’s relinquished his WBO World Lightweight Title, and traveled to Arlington Texas to face the hard hitting Puerto Rican Thomas Dulorme, 22-2, 14 KO’s. Crawford who moved up in weight to face Dulorme started slow but by the middle rounds began to control the fight. In the sixth round Crawford caught Dulorme with a combination that sent him to the canvas. Dulorme was floored two more times in the round before the fight was eventually stopped after the third knockdown. Crawford was victorious and now holder of the WBO Super Lightweight Title.
On October 24th Crawford will again return home to Nebraska to defend his title at the CenturyLink Center, bringing championship boxing to Omaha for only the third time in history. Crawford is set to face Dierry Jean, 29-1, 12 KO’s. Jean who is of Haitian descent but fights out of Montreal Canada is a solid opponent for Crawford’s first defense of his WBO Super Lightweight Title, with Jean’s only defeat coming in January 2014 at the hands of Lamont Peterson, 33-3-1, 17 KO’s
Crawford continues to shine as he was named ESPN’s 2014 fighter of the year and has broke into my top pound for pound list. With a victory over Jean, Crawford will definitely be in position for a “Super Fight” come spring of 2016. The big question is what will Bob Arum and Top Rank have planned? I personally feel that Bob will stay within his stable and matchup former eight division world champion, and first ballot future hall of famer, Manny Pacquiao, 57-6-2, 38 KO’s against Crawford. If that fight happens the “Bud will Blossom” and Terence will become a household name overnight. Crawford is a special fighter and has all the tools needed to succeed physically and mentally. A victory for Crawford over a big name like Pacquiao is exactly what the sport needs, a young, fresh, and humble champion from America’s heartland, to lead the fans into a new era of boxing.
