In a shocker, the Philadelphia Eagles have fired coach and de-facto General Manager Chip Kelly. Kelly, the former Oregon University head coach, came to the Eagles with great promise in 2013 bringing his innovative hurry up offense to the NFL. Philadelphia rebounded from a subpar season in 2012 and went 10-6, advancing to the playoffs. However, over time, Kelly seemed to let the power go to his head and made a number of ill-advised player personnel moves, including the release of explosive wide receiver DeSean Jackson and trading of all-pro running back and the team’s best player, LeSean McCoy which weakened the team and ultimately led to his downfall.

The timing of this move is somewhat of a surprise but, at 6-9, the Eagles are clearly a team that is going in the wrong direction. Ultimately, Chip goes down as another college coach who was unable to successfully transition to the pro game.
