Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Headlines Boxing Weekend
PPV – Saturday
The other Filipino pound for pound top fighter will be in action this Saturday night. Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, 24-1, 16 KO’s, steps up to fill the gap by missing headliner Julio Cesar Chavez, JR., who pulled out due to illness. Donaire will be facing Volodymyr Sydorenko, 22-2-2, 7 KO’s, in a twelve round bout.
Donaire made his presence known in the boxing world in 2007 when he knocked out the highly touted Vic Darchinyan in five rounds. He would follow up with six straight wins, five of which were by knockout heading into Saturday’s fight. He is heavily favored to win the interim WBA Bantamweight Title and already has his sights set on February showdown with Fernando Montiel for two of the bantamweight titles.
Sydorenko has lost two of his last three bouts, but has never been stopped. He has fought a lot of decent fighters, but he may not have the firepower to deal with Donaire, who will be seeking the knockout from the opening bell.
The WBC Lightweight Title is up for grabs as well, as Humberto Soto, 53-7-2, 32 KO’s, takes on Urbano Antillon, 28-1, 20 KO’s. Soto is a very active fighter and champion, fighting three times in 2010 already. He will be coming at the dangerous challenger in what should be a war.
SHOBOX – Tonight
Cruiserweight Lateef “Power” Kayode, 14-0, 13 KO’s, will be looking for another knockout on SHOBOX tonight as he faces Ed “The Georgia Thumper” Perry, 17-4-2, 1 NSF, 11 KO’s, in a ten round event. Perry has never been stopped.
In the opener, Cuban Olympian Luis “La Estrella” Franco, 7-0, 5 KO’s, tries to keep his unbeaten streak alive against Eric “Outlaw” Hunter, 15-1, 8 KO’s, in a ten-round featherweight bout.
