Vic Darchinyan – Abner Mares Surprising Results

Abner Mares, 20-0-1, 13 KO’s, climbed off the canvas to outwork Vic Darchinyan, 35-3-1, 27 KO’s, to pick up a split decision by scores of 115-112, 115-111, and 111-115. Mares suffered a cut on the top of his head and ate some big shots, but continued to be aggressive and did some body work. The continued pressure seemed to really bother Darchinyan, ruining his rhythm and he was never able again to land the power shot that sent Mares down initially.
Mares picked up the WBC Silver Belt and moved forward in the Showtime bantamweight tournament.
