Former Champ Georges St. Pierre Confirms Comeback – Breaking UFC News
Finally, after a wave of rumors of a comeback, Georges St. Pierre finally confirms his plan to go back into the 8-sided cage of the UFC. St. Pierre expressed his intention to return after a 3-year self-imposed hiatus which saw St. Pierre relinquish the welterweight title and walk away from the sport. St. Pierre was optimistic about his return.
“I love my sport and I still feel I’m at my best right now. The clock is running. I’m not getting any younger,” he said. “I’m in the peak of my career. If there is a shot, there is another goal, another run, I better do it and do it quick. Because it is time to do it now.” St. Pierre said.
For the moment, St. Pierre’s management is still ironing out the kinks on what St. Pierre’s contract with the UFC be, since St. Pierre is a loyal endorser of Under Armour and the UFC has an exclusive apparel contract with Reebok.
Negotiations are still ongoing at the time of this writing.
It is well-remembered that St. Pierre walked away from the sport after a 12-fight winning streak, defended his title 9 consecutive times and was considered to be the greatest welterweight of all time. St. Pierre’s name is also consistent with the pound-for-pound list that have him placed second only to Anderson Silva during his title reign.
His return would mark his 22nd fight in the UFC and St. Pierre hinted on wanting to fight current middleweight champion Michael Bisping.
